Presidents Picklebox

Dear SLPCC Club Members,

There will be change in the leveling up process going forward.  The Board voted 4-1 last Wednesday to suspend using DUPR as the method of leveling up during club play.   This is going to be replaced with the Oakwood model using a Skills test, Conditional play, and a game format where you play 5 games against and with players of a higher level, where you have to score so many points to pass.  The Skills test will carry a small fee, paid by the leveling up player, and be administrated by an outside person, Chris Hall, a pickleball professional who conducts the same tests at Oakwood.  So, for you who have DUPR scores, continue to play and record any scores you wish, but they will have NO future bearing on your rating at SLPCC.  The Board has opened up the Rating/Level up Committee to anyone who would have a desire to be involved in this new undertaking and we need volunteers!

I want to personally thank Patty True, chairperson, and everyone on her committee.  They embarked on a difficult task this year and caught many undeserved arrows, as they tried to manage DUPR changes that were at times out of their control.

I am excited to bring this format to the club which embraces many of the concepts we are already teaching in the Skills and Drills classes.  There is an expectation that some of the testing could start this summer as pilot projects to prepare us for when more players return this fall.

Sincerely,

Bud Johnson, President

Bylaw Amendment for Fiscal Year Change Voting is Open

PROPOSED BYLAWS AMENDMENT TO CHANGE THE FISCAL YEAR OF THE SLPCC TO JULY 1 – JUNE 30

Electronic voting on the proposal will be open for two weeks after the meeting. The SLPCC board recommends a ‘yes’ vote so our year end does not fall right in the middle of our busy season.
