EVIL stands for the East Valley Interclub League.
The Sun Lakes Pickleball Club at Cottonwood was one of the founding members of the East Valley Interclub League which began in January, 2014. The current participating clubs are: Sun Lakes Pickleball Club Cottonwood, Sun Lakes Pickleball Club IronOaks, Ahwatukee Pickleball Club (ARC), Province Pickleball Club in Maricopa, Trilogy Pickleball Club in Gilbert, Solera Pickleball Club in Chandler, and Sunbird Pickleball Club in Chandler.
There are separate men’s, women’s, and mixed leagues, designated as a Division 1 League (intermediate to advanced players..3.5 and above), or a Division 2 League (beginning to early intermediate players..low 3.5 and below). Clubs may field teams in one or both divisions. Each team member must be a legitimate member of the associated pickleball club and may only play for one club within a given league.
The league season typically begins in mid to late November and concludes in mid to late March or early April.
All teams play a home and away schedule against the other clubs, with the schedule(s) set by each division/club.
Each club in the different divisions will be comprised of 8 players for each match, who are separated into four 2-player teams. Each team of 2 will play a round robin format against each of the other 4 teams from the opposing club. Each player retains the same partner throughout all match-ups.
In the Men’s and Mixed Leagues, each of the match-ups played will be one game to 21, with each team changing sides at 11, and the winning score must be decided by 2 or more points. The winning team will receive 2 points and the losing team will receive either 0 or 1 point. If the losing team scores 11 or more points, they will receive 1 point; however if they score less than 11 points, their team scores 0 points.
In the Women’s League, each of the match-ups played will be one game to 15, with each team changing sides at 8, and the winning score must also be decided by 2 or more points. The winning team will score 2 points and the losing team will receive 1 point if they scored 8 or more points, but 0 points if the score less than 8 points.
The club with the highest total points will be the winner of the match. Total points won will be tracked by the commissioner and will determine the team standings.
Trophies for all league winners are presented at the end-of-year pizza party. These traveling trophies will reside at the champion’s club until the next season ends.
